New introduction by A. B. Guthrie Jr., 8 pages. 1955, hardcover reprint edition (of a work first published in 1850), Volume 5 in the publisher's Western Frontier Library Series, University of Oklahoma Press, Norman, OK. 300 pages. This is another title in compact editions of classics of the American frontier. Beautifully published, these volumes are all formatted in size and appearance. Extremely well done. In this particular case, we have an account of a 17-year-old who tells of his experiences with William Bent, notable mountain men (including Kit Carson), and other people he met in the wild country of the Rocky Mountain West. Guthrie himself sums it up by stating, "... the genuine article--the Indian, the trader, the mountain man, their dress and behavior and speech, and the country and climate they lived in." Quite a narrative.
